I often receive calls from families who are seeking social outings for their teens.  After speaking with a programmer at Burnaby Parks and Recreation, I learned that we can develop a program for children or teens with special needs based out of the community recreation centres. We would need a group of 8-10 committed participants.  Parks and Recreation can provide two staff members to support the group. Individuals who require 1:1 support for personal care, medical needs or behaviour challenges are welcome. They would need to be accompanied by their own support person.  In the past, the programmer advised that parents found it a challenge to bring their teens to the program.
